In July 2023, the EcoMaris welcomed aboard several members of the Wolastoqiyik Wahsipekuk First Nation for a journey of connection with the Wolastoqey identity.

Discussions on native leadership and the importance of the Wahsipekuk were the main themes of this trip to the Nation's ancestral territories. At the same time, the discovery of the river's ecosystems and navigation techniques enabled participants from all generations to work together towards a common goal: preserving the territory.

For this second collaboration with Parks Canada and the Wolastoqiyik Wahsipekuk First Nation, our reporter William was present throughout the trip to capture moments of life and reconnection with the identity of the only Wolastoqey Nation on Quebec territory. We're proud to see this pilot project of our Native River program brought to the screen!
